ASAP Mob crew mourns the passing of their founding member.
Sad news broke out of the A$AP Mob camp early Sunday morning, founding member A$AP Yams has reportedly passed away
at the age of 26. While details on what caused his death are still
unknown, members of the Harlem collective have confirmed his passing on
social media.
A$AP Rocky posted an image of the upstart hip hop mogul on Instagram with the caption, “R.I.P. Yams, I Love You Brother.”
A$AP Ferg posted an IG image of a moment he shared with Yams on stage and added a heartfelt caption.
“You were the brilliant mind ,you put us on Game , you changed our
lives. You changed my life , you changed the world. R.i.P YAMZ there can
never be another one after you . #asapworldwide #asapferg #yamborgini
#yamz”
A Harlem native, Yams—born Steven Rodriguez—battled an addiction to
codeine and Xanax. He did a stint in rehab last July in an effort to
kick the habit.
“That lean sh** corny now i apologize for even glorifying that bullsh**
its embarrassing it destroyed too many lives,” he wrote on Twitter in
July. “Its disrespectful to the families who lost loved ones to that
demon for us to be flaunting that addiction rip pimp c.”
According to a New York Times
profile, Yams formed the group with A$AP Bari and A$AP Illz back in
2007, and met the Mob's star talent, Rocky in 2008. Yams was considered
the visionary mind behind the crew’s popular cross-regional sound.
