Nas is back. After previewing the song at the Run the Jewels 2 release event in Brooklyn last night, the hip-hop king debuts the studio version of his new single “The Season.” Over J Dilla’s “Gobstopper” beat, he pays homage to the late producer and reflects on not being able to enjoy the fruits of his labor. “Dilla lives on / It’s like he wrote it with me / The soulful sample compliments my rhymes so well,” he raps. Nas also denies that Jay Electronica or Jay Z inspire his rhymes (“He vacationin’”), and credits his brother Jungle as his source of inspiration. He is working on the follow-up to 2012′s Life Is Good, and was recently in the studio with Madonna.
